James H. Laros III

About Me

james.laros@gmail.com

James H. Laros III is a Senior Scientist at Sandia National Laboratories, with more than 40 years of service to the United States. He began with four years of active duty in the U.S. Air Force and a year in the Air National Guard, then worked as a Systems Analyst for the Strategic Defense Initiative program in Colorado.

Since joining Sandia in 1995, James has worked across high-performance computing (HPC): hierarchical mass storage, file systems, system management and software, reliability, availability and serviceability (RAS) systems, and lightweight kernel operating systems. For the past fifteen years he has led advanced-architecture HPC systems. He was chief architect and project lead for Astra (VGI) and Spectra (VGII) under the Vanguard Advanced Architecture Prototype program, chief architect and deputy program manager for ACES Crossroads, and program lead for the Advanced Architecture Testbed and Advanced Memory Technology (AMT) programs. His honors include four Defense Programs Awards of Excellence and three R&D 100 Awards.
